How we work
Built with the people who will use it.
A household water system needs people who know the site, crews who can build it and a family equipped to look after it. Our role is to fund agreed work and follow its progress, while local organizations and communities shape how it is carried out.
Start with local priorities
People know the demands of their land, water sources and daily routines. Local organizations bring those perspectives into project planning, helping identify needs, suitable sites and the support people can use. The arrangements differ between a household installation, a workshop and a scholarship.
Agree the work and the budget
Friends of Volunteers Initiative Nepal (VIN), Canada is an independently governed Canadian charity. Our Board of Directors approves project scope and budgets, provides funding and reviews activity and financial reporting. We may work with Volunteers Initiative Nepal (VIN) and other local organizations; the Canadian charity’s funds support agreed charitable work, not VIN’s general programming.
Organize delivery in Nepal
VIN brings community relationships, field staff and experience in construction and training. In the water project, it coordinates household selection with local representatives, arranges materials and technical supervision, and works with local crews. Families contribute site knowledge and take part in work appropriate to their circumstances.
Build the skills to keep going
Equipment is useful only if people can use and maintain it. Water-system training covers cleaning, valves and filter care. Food-growing workshops build skills in soil care and using the water available. Our aim is to help communities meet more of their own needs over time, with local knowledge and maintenance skills that remain after an installation or workshop.
Follow the work
Reporting gives the Canadian charity a way to follow agreed activities, spending and the issues that arise. For the 2026 water project, VIN provides quarterly activity and financial reports, with a completion report due by the end of January 2027. The case study keeps this project’s scope separate from VIN’s earlier reported results and will be updated as completion evidence becomes available.
